ABOUT ENCHANTICA
The Certificates
The very fist type of certificate released during Holland
Studio Craft days was just an artist card that was supplied with the first
pieces, it came with some limited and all non-limited pieces alike (so some
limited pieces
came with an artist card and a numbered certificate, it was just a little piece
of folded card printed in red on an off white/light grey textured card
measuring 7.2cm x 7.5cm (14.6cm x 7.5cm when open) and on the inside, the card
was signed by the artist who had painted the piece.
----------
The Artist card remained for a few years but was eventually
faded out by Royal Doulton but not before it was redesigned early on and
printed in black and gold on thin mottled card. The measurements remained the
same and the artist still signed the inside of the card.
----------
The first type of certificate for limited edition pieces released
during Holland Studio Craft days were printed in red on an off white/light grey
textured card measuring 18.5cm x 9.9cm, it was only given with nine pieces, the
four, first edition season wizards, the four, first edition season dragons and
the first edition winter witch.
They had the printed signatures of Andrew
Bill and Phillip Holland plus the hand signed signature of the artist who painted
the figure
----------
The second type of certificate released with the limited
pieces were much better, they were printed in black and gold on thin mottled card
and placed in a wooden frame measuring 16.8cm
x 11.8cm and it could be stood up using the fold out stand or hung on the wall
They
had the printed signatures of the Sculptor and Phillip Holland plus the
hand signed signature of the artist who painted the figure
----------
The wood frames were eventually replaced by a flimsier affair;
the same black and gold printed certificates were placed inside a folding piece
of card instead which measured ???cm x ???cm (???cm x ???cm when open), they didn’t look as good but they were better for storing
because they didn’t take up as much room.
Some had the printed signatures
of the sculptor and Philip Holland, Some had just the sculptors printed signature and
others just had Phillip Hollands printed signature but none of them had
the artists signature who painted the figure anymore
----------
Over time the outer card remained the same but the
certificates became more colourful and each one became individual, with many
different styles used
----------
When the Dragongorge part of the Enchantica range was released they came with a new style of certificate, there were two types, a large version for the larger pieces and a small version for the smaller pieces but they were both in the same printed style, this was a parchment effect folding card with the Dragongorge logo printed on the front.
The large certificates came in a folding
card which measured 15.5cm x 21.5cm (11.2cm x 12.5cm when open) and had a wavy edge all around, there was a
story printed inside the card and the certificate was attached inside.
----------
The small certificates were actually the folding card (in
other words there was no separate certificate attached inside) the card
measured 15cm x 11.2cm (30.2cm x 11.2cm when open) and had a straight edge, there was a story printed
inside the card.
----------
There were other types of certificates that were not
standard, there were some I got that didn’t include a card folder and pieces
like the Annual pieces had different unique certificates produced just for that
piece
----------
When the boxes for the range were redesigned in full colour, the certificates changed too so that they would match.
Like the small Dragongorge certificates, the new Enchantica
ones had no separate certificate inside the card; the folding card was the
certificate. They measure 11.5cm x 16cm (23.2cm x 16cm when open), they are printed in full colour with a
map of Enchantica on the outside and on the inside there is a story.
----------
When Xystos the new owners of Enchantica came along they
kept the look of the certificates from Royal Doulton days but they removed any
reference to Holland Studio Craft and Royal Doulton from them
Then in 2006 Xystos started to include a Story display card that is made from thick card and comes with a fold out section at the back so you can stand it up

The Enchantica
plates also came with certificates, the first four were released by HSC Themselves
and had the printed signature of Phillip Holland
The next twelve
plates were released via Danbury Mint but they still came with a certificate
with the Enchantica logo on and came with the printed signatures of John J.
Woodward and Martin Phillips
