EN2362 - Gracewing

Gracewing

Throstle drew back from the edge of the rock, and signalled for the other two to follow him.  He clambered back down to the head of the goat trail and before long brought them to a space beneath a deep overhang of rock.  A great cushion of snow had been blown into this large cavity, and to the astonishment of the banf and the half goblin, the wizard suddenly began to speak words at it.  Jonquil stared at the sculpted mound of white not knowing what to expect.  He saw a movement, and then the whole surface of the snow seemed to shift and rise up.  As they watched, the majestic person of a white dragon took shape from the snow; a creature of supreme elegance and beauty lifting himself out from his frozen bed, and shaking his crumpled wings free of the clinging powder.  A fine, aristocratic head, which reminded Jonquil a little of the noble Charlock, trumpeted softly to the wizard in greeting.  Throstle approached the exquisite being with extended arms and embraced the handsome neck of this old friend; Gracewing reached down and nuzzled the wizard’s back in return.

OTHER INFORMATION

This piece has been painted in colours that totally ignores how Andrew Bill described it in his book which is annoying - the passage reads:

'Jonquil stared at the sculpted mound of white not knowing what to expect. He saw a movement, and then the whole surface of the snow seemed to shift and rise up. As they watched, the majestic person of a white dragon took shape from the snow; a creature of supreme elegance and beauty lifting himself out from his frozen bed.........' also on the next page it says 'Throstle introduced Jonquil to the white Dragon' and to rub it in even more it also states 'Gracewing's body was laden with a long saddle and assorted baggage, all of it made from materials as white as his scales. It was no wonder therefore that he had been able to lie down upon the snow mound and practically disappear'

So why paint the Dragon yellow & white when it is so clearly described as white? - as far as I know there is only one sort of 'yellow' snow and I sure wouldn't want to lie down in it (think about it!), this is one Dragon that should have been painted in the usual winter colours of white with hints of blue, and the yellow colour could have been used for a different dragon. On a visit to the factory we were shown a blue version as well as the yellow version, we were asked which we prefered and we all said blue... but they stil went with yellow!
