EN3003 - Halos

Halos

In the third age of dawn in the land that is now known as Enchantica.  The wizards let lay upon the land this and many others liken it, what hence shall be known as a dragon stop and know ye this, let all that are waery stop ye here a while.  And let thee see the splendor of such a beast and revel in the awe and majesty of such a one.  Only when we do this will the union between man and dragon be complete, and maybe one day, we shall live as one.  Traveller stop and wonder at, in this fair and beautiful land known as Enchantica

OTHER INFORMATION

After a long time away for Enchantica, they returned and brought with them Halos by Andrew Bill which gave us the return of the Annual piece

This is one of the pieces that was to be released by Royal Doulton as the 2003 Annual piece but they cancelled the range in typical Royal Doulton style (they never knew how to deal with a fantasy range)

RD sold the remaining stock and range to a company called Xystos and this is one of the ex RD pieces

Before release the piece was recast with a solid pewter base and a resin dragon, to see the piece with the original resin base Click Here

Original artwork of Halos below was drawn by Rob Simpson and as such he owns the ©copyright to this art - used with kind permission

The pewter base can be clearly seen in the photos below

Note that the sticker on the base of the first pieces released by xystos states that the piece was sculpted by Rob Simpson instead of Andrew Bill! I hope that this isn't a sign of things to come!

This piece came with the full colour card folder type certificate

-------------------------

The pictures below are how I first saw the piece, it's an artist proof, and it was the piece used in the very first Xystos leaflets about the Enchantica relaunch. It is very similar to the production colours except the underwings have less colour and the outer wings have more, the pool is cast from resin and painted grey not cast in pewter and there is more detail on the base, the pool isn't filled with clear resin and it is missing one limb
(see lower for fixed version of this figure).

The photos below clearly show the piece is missing a limb and it looked odd without it

Here you can see that there is no clear resin in the base yet

I then purchased the piece but before I picked it up it had a few things done. the main thing was that a new arm was fitted, it's slightly different and doesn't rest on the rear wall. The base was given a sandstone colour wash to match the very first paint trial of this piece (first photo below) and the pool was filled with clear resin.

The replacement arm

Four comparison photos show how the original resin base had a little more detail, this was cut down and this would have been to save on weight with the pewter base

Also to help reduce weight, the back has been thinned down

Two photos showing that the piece was originally going to be released by Royal Doulton, under enchantica it says 'Holland Studio Craft' and it was to be a limited edition of 2,950, also the date after A. Bill is 2004

Now the 'Holland Studio Craft' has been removed, a new stamp for the 'Year Piece 2006' has been added and the new date of 2005 replaces the 2004 mark

Finally, shown side by side with the production piece
