WINDOW OF WONDERS
(Fenestra Mirabilis)

(A person or thing regarded as a source of wisdom or prophecy)

Deep within the Book of Legends, there is a story of a great artefact created by a brotherhood of holy men. Their craftsmen fashioned a circular slab of enchanted quartz into a mighty window and set it high upon a rocky pinnacle. The Eye of Truth the brothers called it, but as its fame spread throughout the lands as an oracle and a magical source of hidden knowledge, to those that saw it, it became the Window of Wonders.

Only for the briefest time during the festival of the winter solstice could the great disc be questioned. When the first rays of the rising sun struck the window with a pure and brilliant beam of light, the petitioner would then have a few precious moments to pose their question.

Naturally there was a great demand for an audience with such a rare and valuable spectacle, and one might think that only the rich and influential would have access to it. However, the modest brotherhood who now stewarded the mighty window judged the worth of the petitioner not by their wealth or position but by their need. Consequently king and carpenter, sorcerer and shepherd, were permitted to wait in turn for this all too fleeting annual event.

One of the difficulties with oracles is how to interpret them, for they are frequently cryptic or obtuse. Hariolus, the old sage of the brotherhood, offered his unbiased wisdom on the visions that appeared. However, all those who were brave and determined enough to seek a glimpse of the future, were told 'beware,' for deep disappointment as well as great joy might await them with the coming winter sun.

OTHER INFORMATION

**This Piece was to be the replacement for the yearly piece 'Portal' but it was delayed and didn't arrive in the US until Autumn time and it was much later when it arrived in the UK so the Retirement date of May 2004 is wrong

Original artwork of Incantation shown below was drawn by Andrew Bill and as such he owns the ©Copyright to this art - used with kind permission
Note that the drawing shows that it was intended to be the other way around but Doug Mitchel thought it was too similar in pose to the Dragonsite piece '
Talisman', so Andrew just flipped the drawing
