Dragon of the Golden Hoard
The Dragon guarding treasure occurs in many ancient myths. Dragons guarded the Golden Fleece and the Golden Apples of Hesperides. This, unfortunately for the Dragon, was usually seen as a great challenge to man, who would either kill or be killed in the attempt to attain his desired goal -- be it gold, jewels or other precious items.
Dragons could be
relied upon to guard their treasure jealously -- and fiercely, and this one is
no exception. Tread carefully, for when the Dragon's treasure is stolen, all
manner of fury breaks loose, as happened in Greatasland, where it took the
combined efforts of Beowulf and Wiglaf to prevent the Dragon from completely
destroying the nearby village in retribution. So fierce was the fight that the
heroic Beowulf died of his injuries.
