Twit Coxcombe

Twit is the Cock of the Walk. His eccentricity embodies his confidence, and he would have been the most eagerly awaited act in the Court's evening entertainment.

Far from being an idiot like Merry Andrew, Twit was a master of his trade. As a result he would probably have become companion and confidante to his master. This would have opened all doors and let him into the complex world of social intrigue which surrounded the noble houses and crowned heads of Europe. Twit Coxcombe's act would be laced with political satire, and his words would have brought some free speech and criticism to court, at a time when few dared to challenge the monarch's sovereignty. A combination of apparently witless frolic, and philosophical conversation rendered Twit, and his like, peerless in the ranks of the Jester and Fool.
