The Soothsayer
When men lived in caves, they needed an understanding of the mysteries that surrounded them. The tribal shaman provided primitive man with those answers.
The word 'soothsayer', in it's original meaning, is a truthful person; it also means one who claims to have supernatural insight. Soothsayers would read the future in the way birds flew, in the appetite of sacred geese, the casting of runes or dice and, above all, in the entrails of sacrificial animals. In this way they predicted the weather, the abundance of the harvests or where the most profitable hunting grounds would be.
