Proposed Chess Set
It was once proposed that a chess set should be made but unfortunatly it only got as far as the concept drawing stage all drawn by Andrew Bill and then four test pieces made before being shelved.
It was planned to make the pieces in pewter so this would have meant an outside contractor would have been used, the 4 pieces on this page were produced by WAP Watson Ltd in 1994 in pewter (not white metal) and are really heavy for such small pieces, they were also sculpted by someone else other than Andrew Bill! They are thought to be the only four pieces in existence.
Years later Rob simpson also experimented with the idea for a chess set and got as far as sculpting a Vrorst piece but that is as far as that plan ever got and the piece was released on it's own at the 1998 Extravaganza as an extra promotional piece.
Original artwork of some of the Winter pieces for the Chess set shown below were drawn by Andrew Bill and as such he owns the ©copyright to this art - used with kind permission.
---------------------------------------------------------
The picture below shows the full set of Winter playing pieces with the following line up
The picture below shows a couple of designs for both the King and Queen (Vrorst and Tuatara)
The pictures below are close-ups of the above picture, in the first picture you can just make out in the top left hand corner the words 'Enchantica Chess Set'
Below is one of the completed test pieces of Vrorst
The pictures below are better quality pictures of the Vrorst & Tuatara pieces
The first picture below is very faint but it shows the two Bishops - the first is Vakari and the second is Mezereon, the second picture is much clearer and it shows Vakari in a much better pose (this would have made a great piece for the main range not just the chess set).
The picture below is a castle/rook for the winter set which is the 'Spire of the North'
The picture below is the castle/rook which is actually the 'Throne Citadel' covered in ice as mentioned in the books but never shown before, if you look you can make out the top spire sticking out of the ice.
The picture below is a Goblin Warrior as the Winter Pawn
Below is one of the completed test pieces of the Goblin Warrior
