Balance of Truth
In his youth, Paracelsus was apprenticed to a great and wise wizard whom he served faithfully for many years. When the old man passed on it fell to his student to catalogue his master's works and take over the tools of his trade. While he was doing this, Paracelcus came upon two crystal balls, which after painstaking experimentation proved to have some very special powers.
They had the power to distinguish truth from falsehood, and allowed their owner to contact magical spirits which could foetell the future.
Armed with this legacy from his teacher, Paracelsus became extremely wise and powerful.
