Once a year -- on New Year's Day, the mediaeval court would celebrate the Festival of the Feast of Fools. Jesters and Fools would eagerly gather from far and near, each one keen to compete for the honour of being designated King of Fools.

Food was wildly consumed and wine flowed freely as the competition intensified for the coveted title. Baldrick has attained the lofty position and is newly crowned the "King of Merriment and Mischief". With his constant companion, Brunhilde the sow by his side, taking the place of comic queen, he proudly occupies the throne as he rules over his Jester subjects.
