Jockomo

Sitting dutifully by his master’s side, Jockomo would wait eagerly to perform, dressed in his jesting finery.  Of lowly birth and unknown breed, he fed royally on the scraps from noble tables thrown to him as reward for his antics.

In Jockomo’s case “a dog’s life” had an entirely happy meaning.
