In Celtic Legend, Hawthorn, King of Giants, lived at the time of King Arthur and was destined to be locked in bloody conflict with him.
Culhwch the cusion of King Arthur, under a curse had to marry Ysbaddaden's daughter Olwen or to spend his life alone.
But for Ysbaddaden, Culhwch's success would be his downfall - his own fate was that he would die on the day his daughter left him for a mortal man. He had guarded he successfully until Culhwch enlisted the help of King Arthur 
After many attacks and skirmishes Culhwch was triumphant. After preparing himself, as fate had decreed, Ysbaddaden bad Culhwch to kill him and so he severed his head from his body.
